Hiarcs Chess Explorer For Mac Windows 10

I bought the $49 version for my iMac and I am very happy with it. I have over 500 games in a PGN file and this app was very helpfull in helping me prepare for opponents in my recent club championship where we played one G/90 a week. (USCF MSA - Cross Table for PARMA CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP (Event 201210304102)). But it is not often that club players will know in advance who they will be playing and have time to prepare.

It took me a few hours to clean up my pgn file so that all of the names were spelled consistently.(like Bob vs. Robert).

I was able to add Stockfish as an engine so I have two engines. Not as good as the engine selections on WIndows, but enough for my level of play.

It reads PGN files in to memory (instead of converting to another database format) and it is very fast in searching. The 35,000 game 'Top Games' file that comes with the app takes about 7 seconds to load. I type 'Carlsen' in the filter and instantly the filter has the 863 games of his in the filter.

I built a PGN file of about 500,000 games and it took about a minute to load and about 2 seconds to find the games by 'Carlsen'. But the links to players and the player list took so long to load you would think that the program was locked up. So the size of the files that come with the app is probably the practical limit.

The filtering is good, you can look at thier web site docs for the details.

A few years ago I bought Chess Base 10 and ran it using VMWare. I gave up on it after a while. The HIARCS Chess Explorer if fine for what I need.
